Tour de Pen Y Ghent
Superb stay! This is ye olde pub so rooms are not very big. We did not come here to spend time in our room. However, it was adequate and cosy with a good, hot shower.
The bar area is lovely, just how I imagine an old, traditional county pub to be. Low, beamed ceilings, open fires, good local ales, and superb food. Probably the best pub grub I’ve had in a very long time. And, sensibly priced. All served by friendly, lovely staff. Excellent indeed!

Family stay during October half term
We had a througly enjoyable 2 night stay, accomodating 5 of us in a link attached family room. The food and atmosphere was excellent, plus the staff couldn’t have been more accomodating for our dairy free needs. We came in like drowned rats from a walk and they kindly allowed us to dry out jackets and boots by the open fires – highly recommended for a family.

Excellent lunch
We called in for an early lunch whilst traveling up through the Dales on route to Barnard Castle and it was well worth the five mile deviation from the main road.
Having booked a table in advance due to Covid we were pleased to say that we were seated by a lovely fire in the small cozy bar area. There was plenty of hand sanitizer and notices displayed so it was reassuring to know that the Covid guidelines were being adhered to.
There were already another two couples eating despite the early hour, just after midday. The pub is apparently well known for its homemade pies so when in Rome……
We both had the Steak and Ale pies which are made on the premises and they really were excellent, I had chips and peas, my wife mash and veg. My wife had a Chilean Sauvignon blanc wine which she enjoyed whilst I sampled a pint of the Wharfedale Blonde ale. Had I not been driving I would have happily stayed on for a few more to really do it justice.
The landlady who was serving us was very courteous and engaging and we had a good chat about a few things of local interest.
All in all a very enjoyable lunch and definitely on the return visit list.

Excellent beer, food and Covid19 safeguards.
Friends invited us on a socially distanced walk with a lunch stop at the Queen’s in order to try the on site brewed beer. I hadn’t been there in almost 20 years. The walk was wet but the beer and food were excellent. A good range of menu choices. The two beers we tried were superb. No complaints. In addition, in these difficult times the pub had clear Covid19 signage and instructions. The staff were masked and careful in their distancing and the toilet facilities had clear instructions and guidance in place. Ten out of ten on all counts. We will be back.

Lovely friendly little pub
Superb little gem in the heart of the Dales. Very warm and friendly welcome for my husband and I and the dog too! The food is amazing! and very reasonably priced. We felt very safe inside the restaurant good protocols in place for sanitising and track and trace. 5 star service – definitely looking forward to returning next year. Thank you!

Lovely country pub in beautiful countryside
We stopped at this pub, on one of our regular drives through this area, for lunch. I had the chicken, leek, and bacon pie, and OH had a steak. Both were delicious, and came with very good chips and veg.
Reasonably priced, we’ve added this to our list of preferred dining venues. Will definitely return.

Weekend away in the Yorkshire Dales (and it IS COVID SAFE!)
We booked to stay here for two nights in early October 2020 as a point from which to explore the Dales for a walking holiday. Michelle is a wonderfully polite and attentive host and we immediately felt welcomed into her warm cosy pub. We ate in the bar on the Friday night and unlike a previous reviewer I couldn’t fault their Covid biosecurity measures which tables AND chairs getting a cleanse after each diner. There were also tables in front of the bar to prevent people approaching.
First things first…. the food. Now as a vegan in a small local pub I can sometimes be left feeling a bit excluded from all the yummy options but they had really gone the extra mile with a fabulous vegan burger and even a pudding! I was so happy (and full!). Wine was really good and reasonably priced and there was a small selection of local ales. My boyfriend had what he described as the best pie ever, a lamb cutlet pie – it certainly went down a storm with him. There were plenty of options for breakfast in the morning so we were set up for a days’ walking.
The room was lovely, warm and cosy with a wonderful view of the mountains and a lovely hot shower. On our second night we travelled to Cartmel for dinner and it was a filthy rainy night travelling over the fells in terrible weather. When we arrived back there was a little something courtesy of Michelle waiting for us outside our room. A welcome treat!
We had the best time in Yorkshire and loved our time staying and eating here – it was just perfect.

Absolute gem
What a great find, we popped in for a light lunch today, we were greeted by a friendly lady, who allowed us to bring the dogs inside, we had hoped to stay outside with them but it started to drizzle. We ordered sandwiches, pate and the best scotch egg I have ever tasted. All the food was nicely presented and everything was delicious great homemade pate the chips were probably the best I’ve ever had amazing crunchy outside and fluffy inside. Only one of the party was drinking alcohol, and enjoyed 2 pints of Tetley which he said was really good , it must have been as he doesn’t normally have 2 pints in a lunch time !!! , the lady also gave him a sample of their local brew, which also got top marks. We will definitely be returning. Thank you

Perfect Dales pub lunch – with charming and welcoming staff
We were a party of six touring the Dales and stopped at the Queens Head for lunch on Friday 25th September. The food was universally delicious and the service was brilliant. We asked for directions for a post-lunch walk and they provided us with a laminated map! Covid-19 arrangements were also first class. It’s a gem!

Lamb Pie!
Popped in here for lunch yesterday during a lovely bike ride down Littondale. Couldn’t resist trying the Lamb Pie as the menu said it contained a lamb cutlet! At first sight it looked rather odd with the bone sticking out of the pastry, but also elegant. The pie contained succulent lamb stew as well, which tastes a bit different from lamb cutlet of course, but perfectly complimentary – the combo was amazing. Decent pastry, average gravy, but the best chunky chips I’ve had in years! Super crispy, even towards the end of the meal when they were no longer hot. That’s unusual. Nice creamed peas and cabbage too. All washed down by a lovely bottle of Brooklyn non alcoholic beer.
At the end I reached into my backpack for my wallet to pay, but it had gone! The landlady was very understanding and let me ride all the way back to Foxup to look for it. No luck there, but some time later it turned out I’d dropped wallet near the pub – many thanks to the landlady at the Park Bottom B&B in Litton for returning it to me!

Fabulous as always and very hot with covid protocol
Lovely proper country pub, cosy with open fire alight, brilliant discipline regarding Covid 19, (not sure why a previous review was so negative…especially as they are from an area that are in lockdown!). The service, food and staff are always amazing, proper home cooked food, well kept ales, couldn’t ask for more

Not Covid-19 secure
Visited 25th September after booking a table. The pub/dining room is very small, but adequate. We were on a table of 2 and next to us a family of 7 sat down – 5 adults and 2 children. When paying, which we did as soon as possible after eating in order to get out, I pointed out to the waitress that the “rules” are 6 people, which is to include children. The waitress made me feel as if I was stupid and in the wrong for mentioning it. Her initial response was to look over at the youngest child (old enough to be playing on an Ipad) and said, she’s only a baby, I can hardly ask her to leave. When I said that it was her responsibility to ensure only 6 were seated together she responded “they haven’t left the village so it’s fine”. That attitude is exactly why we are now back to spiralling numbers and having to live with the restrictions. I am absolutely disgusted that I was left feeling like I was some how out of order for mentioning it and despite having booked a table for the next 2 nights while we are staying in Litton, I would never visit again.

A great pub!
We visited this great pub twice whilst staying in the beautiful village of Litton. On each occasion, the welcome was warm and friendly due to the lovely staff. The arrangements for Covid had been well thought out. We enjoyed tasty home made pies on the first night and returned the next day for an absolutely delicious Sunday lunch. The pub stocks a good range of well kept local beers. If the weather is good, the beer garden is fantastic. We would highly recommend this brilliant pub!

Best food in the Dales !
After a few disappointing meals at other venues , we so enjoyed our meals here , probably the best pub food in the dales , the jerk chicken on special was such an unusual and tasty dish and the lamb burger and its sides were utterly delicious!

Lunch and dinner
We ate here on 2 occasions while staying nearby. The food was beautifully cooked and the custumor service was fantastic. We will be back when in the area again. I thoroughly recommend the lamb pie.

Lovely four night stay
Stayed at the Queens Arms in Litton for four nights. It’s a lovely 17th century building with lots of character. The bedroom was on the small side but more than adequate. The location is perfect if you want a quiet get away from it all stay. It’s a great base to explore the surroundings. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Great full English breakfast and evening meals are varied and delicious. Best rib eye steak I’ve probably ever had. The lamb pie was also a hit. Book in advance as it gets busy.

Wonderful weekend staycation.
We have just returned from a bank holiday stay at the Queens Arms in Litton, what an absolute gem this place is.
We headed up for some fresh air, walking and to get away from it all and it did not disappoint. From checking in to leaving we couldn’t fault this place. Our room was comfy and perfect for after a day of walking and exploring the dales and we booked to eat here both nights. There was no TV in our room and we couldn’t get phone reception but we didn’t care, we totally unwound and detoxed from everyday life. We left relaxed and chilled.
The food is outstanding, I would return for the chips alone, it really was some of the best pub food we’ve had. We left stuffed and just made room for the delicious puddings too. Breakfast was ordered the night before and set us up for our days out.
Thanks Michelle, Matt and the whole team. We’ll be looking to book again for next August bank holiday to stay in this amazing place again.
Great food
Called within a group of friends as we were passing on motor bikes, no problem getting served. I had the fish pie, superb, the lamb pie that others had was amazing never seen one like it. Helpful friendly staff. Will be back.

Lovely Pub with Great Food
Great cosy welcoming pub with a chilled relaxed atmosphere. The owners and others working there were very friendly. We were staying over (separate review) and ate here both nights. The food was amazing with plenty choice, the Sticky Toffee pudding was to die for. The pub is in a beautiful setting, it was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the lovely surroundings. Wish we lived closer, highly recommend.

Hidden gem
We spent two wonderful nights @ this extremely welcoming pub. It was our second stay here plus numerous visits for a drink & meal.
The food is excellent, the atmosphere friendly & inviting.
Every effort was made to make people feel safe with rigorous cleaning routines, hand gel & Wipes provided. Plus social distancing protacols.
We will return again on our next trip to the dales.

Delightful dales pub
Called in to this cosy welcoming dales pub and enjoyed the experience. Service was fast and friendly, food was well presented and perfect, and the ambiance is great.
The pub has a beer garden and seating to the front as well as tables in the bar. It brews its own beer and the Elderflower Pale Ale is particularly thirst quenching. it’s one of four hand pulled beers. If you enjoy walking its a good half way stop on a delightful circular walk from Arncliffe.
We didn’t stay overnight here as id looked on line the previous week and saw it was full but I would imagine overnights here might be good too

Fabulous atmosphere, fabulous food and drink
We visited The Queen’s Arms today for lunch. Set in a beautiful location this quaint inn offers the most excellent food. We both opted for a pie. I had the steak pie and my wife had the cheese and onion. Both were delicious with the most perfect pastry. We chatted with another couple who had thoroughly enjoyed their steak sandwiches and drought ale. Rooms are available, which my wife and I will definitely consider next time we are in the area. I can not recommend this place more highly for their welcome, friendliness and quality of produce.

Could not recommend more!
Could not recommend more! We were half an hour late for our table reservation but the staff had put the fire on in the back room for when we did arrive. Could not imagine a better welcoming after walking in the rain and wind. The service was amazing and the food was perfect! We will 100% be coming again!!

Fantastic Food and Great Atmosphere
Stopped by today for lunch. Well worth a trip through the snow covered hill sides. Warm welcome. Roaring fire. Craft beer brewed on site was very good
..pity i was driving! And the lamb pie was probably the best lunchtime meal I have had for at least 5 years. Cannot recommend it too much.. Do try it out; and almost all the food is sourced very locally.

Amazing Food , Beer and Hospitality
Spent a few days away with family in a holiday cottage a mile up the valley. Went on sunday afternoon and watched the 6 nations and then had a wonderful Sunday Lunch , everything was cooked to perfection and the pubs own brewed beer was excellent.
On the last night we went here again for o lovely meal and they even opened the kitchen a bit earlier as we had a 1 year old ready for food and bed.
Lovely Pub , Staff , Food and Beer.
Thank you all very much for looking after us and we will be back soon and stay in the pub.

A warm welcome, great food and ales at The Queen’s Arms in Litton
We recently had a weekend away in Litton, located in the magnificent Yorkshire Dales.
We arrived without a booking on the Friday evening to a roaring log fire, friendly staff, a great choice of local ales and a fantastic choice of freshly prepared food.
There were four of us drinking and dining, four different dishes, and all excellent presentation, flavour and portion size.
Very impressed and recommend without hesitation and will definitely return.

What an incredible little
What an incredible little pub in the Yorkshire Dales this is. Stayed 2 nights, lovely room, awesome hospitality from everyone who served us and what can I say about the food… I’ve eaten in some great pubs and this up there with the best of them, this is how pub food should be, quality ingredients, expertly cooked, presents beautifully and a very reasonable price

Absolutely amazing food!
Absolutely amazing food! We had a lovely chap on a Tuesday afternoon serve us with his beautiful little dog mini. And I’ve got to say it’s the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever tasted! Mandy who makes them is a genius. Beautiful relaxed feel, would highly recommend. Shame we live 6 hours away.

Delicious Sunday Lunch
Staying down the lane at StoneLands cottages and as it was glorious winter weather we thought we’d walk to the Queens Arms with our 2 children, 1 and 4. We’d booked ahead and our reserved table was clearly labelled. I had the roast lamb, my husband the pork belly and we had a fish and chips and the pasta bake off the children’s menu. All of the food was delicious and the roasts even came with yummy cauliflower which was a real treat! For pudding we had sticky toffee pudding and my daughter had a tub of chocolate ice-cream. The service was very good and it was a really lovely, traditional pub. If we’re in the area again we’ll definitely be going back!

Great Lamb Pies!!!
Another great trip to the Queens Arms. The Lamb Pie is one of the best pies around and is great served with a Pale Ale from the onsite Lamb Brewing Company. Well worth a visit. Thanks Michelle, Matt & the team. See you again early Feb!
Date of visit: January 2020
Great, homemade food, lovely
The pub has a great, traditional feel, cozy with an open fire, a small bar and lots of chatty passing trade. The place has lots of local regulars (and two dart teams), supplemented by residents and trippers, so there is a nice buzz of conversation (and no piped music, yippee!).
We ate in both evenings of our stay and the place was pretty full. Our rib eye steaks with homemade chips and onion rings were perfect the first night, and our steak pies on day 2, with mash, veg and lovely gravy wonderful, in fact, probably the best pies I’ve ever tasted (and I’ve had a few). The generous portions meant no room for puddings.
The Lamb Brewery on the premises meant we could drink their own pale, bitter and mild brews, all tip top, very well kept.
Michelle, Matthew and their small team deserve all credit for providing such a lovely experience
We will return.

I’ve found the Holy Grail of a country pub
Superb. Chef with attitude. A good one towards providing food that is worth every penny. And not boring pub food either. Restored my faith in finding a pub lunch with some wit behind it. Friendly bar staff. Some fantastic deals on for accommodation and food in January. We’re booked in for March after a great walk. Can’t wait.

We stumbled across this pub by chance one day when driving around the Yorkshire Dales. Safe to say we have driven out here a few times since to revisit! Absolutely amazing views, real warm cosy and homely feel to the pub with open fire. Great selection of gins and ales. Prefect little country pub. One of my favourite places to visit.

Lovely cosy, friendly pub with great beer and fabulous food. It is very popular so it is definately best to book if you can.

Well organised and friendly
I came with a group of 10 for evening meal. I was told we’d need to put in our orders in advance and that was fine, because it was part way round the walk that we were doing, so we stopped off for a cuppa. A waitress came to the tables we were at (outside in the sunshine) and took our orders. When returned at 6, the meals were on the table for us 10 minutes later. Very well organised. The food was good and enjoyed by all. Note – you need a big appetite – portions are generous! Also on my visits there I found all the staff very helpful and friendly.

Lovely Dales Pub
We ate here twice, during a week’s holiday in the Dales. Food was great and the service friendly. The pub has hardly changed since over the forty odd years that I’ve known it. Looking forward to another visit next year.

LOVELY COUNTRY PUB
No pretentions. A spade’s a spade here and that’s makes this a true Yorkshire pub that leaves you with a smile. Locally sourced food (and staff too) made both beers & menu/foods ideal . Plenty of time to savour every mouthful without being hassled for the table. We were hungry drop-ins &, although the place looked full, the staff simply couldn’t have been kinder. They found us a table very quickly. We both chose fish & chips and it was spot on. A lovely slow summer drive up Littondale with fish & chips at The Queens Arms simply couldn’t have ended our day better. Thanks folks.

Worth the Drive
What a glorious spot this is! It is worth the twisty roads, narrow gaps and wandering sheep to find such a superb example of a Dales Pub. It has great beer, lovely well prepared and unpretentious food, a pretty beer garden with honeysuckle draping the walls and even better lovely reasonably priced rooms for when you want to kick back and relax.
Lovely walks from the pub doorstep and an absolutely tranquil and restful location.
Can I especially recommend the Chorizo Scotch Eggs – a taste of heaven!

Valley walk to lunch
Absolutely lovely pint of local beer and one of the nicest steak pie, chips and mushy pea dinners I’ve ever had. Good selection of food including curry, steaks and the usual pub fare all at reasonable prices. Dog friendly and great service all round. The scotch eggs live up to others reviews; they are delicious . Try to come here if you are in the Yorkshire Dales, you will not be disappointed.

Great food
Stopped at the Queens Arms after a lovely walk, intending to have a drink, and ended up staying for dinner. We were so glad we did. We all had pie. My husband had the steak and ale and my son and I had the lamb which came with a chop baked into it! Both were really good. A proper pie with pastry top and bottom, just as it should be. We didn’t have room for a pudding as the pie was so generous. Next time we are walking in Littondale we will be sure to visit again.

Great pub, lovely food and great location. food
The Queens Arms is all that you imagine a country pub should be like. You will not be disappointed. It’s well worth a visit but booking is essential. Great value and excellent food. The menu is not vast which is a good thing because all the food is cooked on order. When the excellent pies are ordered you are told that you will have to allow at least 20 mins. When the food arrives you then appreciate what excellent food and value really means. The atmosphere, both inside and out, the friendly staff and location make a visit a must.

Lovely pub food
I travelled up to Yorkshire with two of my brothers in law to take on the 3 peak chsllenge. We stayed at the b&b up the road , so had just a short stroll to the pub to eat. We all agreed that the food was brilliant. I had steak and ale pie the 1st night and the lamb pie the next. They were excellent. The staff were welcoming and we will definitely call in if we venture up again in the future.

A Great, warm, friendly pub with top food in a stunning out of the way place
You won’t pass this pub by driving through The Dales – you need to find it but it’s worth the trip – proper old country pub in a stunning location with freindly staff and great food – the home made scotch eggs are a must and the stake and ale pie is top notch – flag floors, fire roaring and a few dogs to boot, this is how pubs should be plus freat service and friebdly staff

A Genuine Jewel in the Dales Crown
If you are looking for genuine hospitality, great food (fish and chips far better than the Wetherby Whaler and the best onion rings in the UK), comfortable bed and decent shower (post walking), not to mention sitting by a real fire and having a decent beverage of your choice oh and a hearty breakfast second to none. Then FORGET the Hilton, go to the best THE QUEENS ARMS is for you and your four pawed friend.

Delicious food
This restaurant was recommended by our B&B and it did not disappoint! The service was friendly, efficient, and the food delicious. My fish pie was exceptional, though a warning about how hot it was would have avoided a scalded tongue. The lamb shank was also much enjoyed. Elton Mess was a treasure trove of unusual ingredients worth saving space for!

A little gem in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales
We have stayed at this delightful pub before as it makes a good base for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. Although only small it makes up for lack of size in the ambience, friendly welcome, delicious food, comfy bedrooms and cosy bar, it is very dog friendly too. Although off the beaten track it is still very popular and there is a nice buzz in the bar in the evenings. We stayed for one night this time with our chocolate labrador. The bedroom was small but well appointed and very clean. Our evening meal was delicious – we had spicy scotch egg, I had the rib eye steak which just melted in the mouth and my wife had the fish and chips. Ample portions so we could only share the gorgeous sticky toffee pudding. All washed down with good quality wines and an Irish coffee. Breakfast next morning was again delicious with nothing too much trouble. Service was excellent throughout from all members of staff. We will definitely be back.

Under New Tenancy (2019) but remains one of the best pub/restaurants in The Dales.
“First visited this old rustic Dales pub in 1953 and have been coming back regularly ever since. It was built in the 1600’s, an old Drovers Pub way up Littondale. It is worth the drive or for many, the walk up lovely Littondale. I live about 9 miles from this pub and enjoy the short drive up there to take lunch. It has recently been taken over by Matt (the chef) and his wife Michelle and the food is excellent. The roaring log fire is always a welcome sight during the winter months. During the warmer summer months it is a draw for walkers and cyclist alike with plenty of outdoor tables and seating. They have accommodation right in the heart of the Dales. A very cosy, friendly pub which is, thankfully, free of loud music.”
Can not recommend highly enough.

Little Gem
“We have just stayed here for 1 night, having stayed 3 years ago. Under new management, but the high standards have been maintained. Very friendly staff with nothing too much trouble. We had the family room, which is ideal if you’ve got children. We ate there in the evening and had a lovely meal. Breakfast was freshly cooked and had all the usual staples of a full English breakfast.
Litton is a lovely village in the quiet dale of Littondale, not far from Grassington, Skipton and Kettlewell. Well worth a visit.”

Proper Yorkshire pub
Proper Yorkshire pub in the middle of Gods county, with a friendly welcoming atmosphere.
Immediately welcomed by a roaring fire, craft beers and great food, using locally sourced produce cooked to perfection
Great for walkers, sat between 2 moors in a small village location, dogs welcome of course.
The Queens has 4 rooms set to a high standard, with homemade flapjack as part of the welcome pack…fantastic.

Heaven in Gods County !!!!!
The landlady and staff are very welcoming (the landlord presides over the Kitchen). The menu is in part what you would expect from a Yorkshire Dales Inn, however, here the focus is on providing home cooked quality dishes . What would seem to be a changing menu is augmented with a specials board. While not an extensive menu as such, its clear that the emphasis is on ensuring what is on offer, is cooked to ensure customer satisfaction. A good selection of Hand pulled beers and they offer a good wine selection. The inn has two rooms ( one is more aligned to diners whereas the main bar area provides the option to either have a drink and or also sit and dine) – the main bar is also dog friendly which with Littondale providing good walking means the Queens Arms is a good stop off from the family walk. The Inn is cosy and to this end has limited covers and therefore I would suggest if your planning a visit that you book ahead , especially at weekends to avoid disappointment – tables can be reserved in the resteraunt style room or the the main bar area. They do have an open fire!! .They also have some bedrooms ( we will certainly be booking a weekend) so this can be a great base for a few days exploring the Dales. The Locals seem friendly but then again I am from Yorkshire anyway ! LOL !

Lovely Sunday Lunch
“On our walk from Arncliffe, we called at the Queens Arms at Litton for Sunday lunch. Very pretty dales pub with open fires and a friendly welcome plus good beer.
The lunch was very tasty and beef was fantastic with great service.
A dog friendly pub on a beautiful circular walk in Littondale, a must visit.”

Damn, this place is good!
Was staying in the area with friends and found this place after a good walk on the nearby hills. A very friendly welcome, excellent local beers and food that was absolutely brilliant – and great value for money. Six of us had different meals (or combinations thereof) and everything was brilliant. We kept stealing bits off each other’s plates! The beef dripping chips are superb.
Will definitively be back when I’m next in the area.

Wonderful Fantastic Stay – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
“We have been to the Queens arms three times before but this is the first time we have visited and since Michelle and Matthew Birtley have taken over. We have always loved here BUT it has only got better since the takeover. A relaxed and friendly atmosphere as well as a welcoming attitude to our mental cockapoos makes this BnB a DEFINITE place to return. We look to return ASAP. Thanks to Michelle and Matthew x”

Great food n beer, cosy & welcoming
We pop into this lovely old pub in Litton about once a year after a long walk in this beautiful dale. Same owners for the last 5 years and standards are still high. Fab hot water pastry steak n ale pie, chips cooked in beef dripping, and buttery greens, washed down with moreish Littondale best bitter. Roaring fires in both rooms. Perfect!
