The Arts
Inspiration is everywhere you look in the Dales and it is not surprising that drama and art features strongly.
From the original ‘Calendar Girls’ of Kettlewell to filming big budget Hollywood productions such as ‘The Woman in Black’ and the original location for ‘Emmerdale’, Littondale has a surprisingly strong link to the arts.
In Littondale, the hub for the local community (in addition to The Queens Arms!) is Amerdale Hall in Arncliffe which holds film nights, dances and events and live music throughout the year.
Grassington prides itself on its lively arts and festival scene with a number of events held annually including the Grassington Festival, Dickensian Festival and 1940’s Weekend.
Settle’s Victoria Hall is a restored music hall close to the town centre hosting drama, comedy and music events – including Richard Digence, Midge Ure and The Peatbog Faeries.
In Giggleswick, The Richard Whiteley Theatre sits in the beautiful grounds of Giggleswick School and the Theatre takes its name from former Giggleswickian and much loved ‘Countdown’ presenter, Richard Whiteley. The Theatre holds top quality drama, music, visual art, film, dance, lectures and exhibitions.
